Born on December 1, 1930 into a family of high tradition, he received blessings from Mahatma Gandhi as a baby in Tangla, Assam. Raised by his father, Shri Lambodar Saharia, to be polite and respectful, he excelled academically, earning degrees from Cotton College, Guwahati and Banaras Hindu University.
A Lifelong Educator
Despite his high qualifications, he chose to become a teacher at Tangla Aided Government High School, going on to lead it as Headmaster for fourteen years — shaping the lives of countless students before entering public life.

Elected to the State Legislative Assembly as an MLA in 1972, he served multiple terms and held portfolios including Forest, Sericulture, Weaving, Khadi & Village Industries, Home, Jail, Civil Defense, Political Suffrage and Revenue, championing development in the tribal areas of Tangla.
